Baseball Game Preview: Truckee Wolverines vs. Churchill County Greenwave

The Truckee Wolverines will square off against the Churchill County Greenwave at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Truckee is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Elko 2-1.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Churchill County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 victory over Lowry. The game snapped a strange streak: the last three times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

James Kelsey made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Tommy Ames looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Anthony Gonzalez was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Zack Adams, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Truckee is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Churchill County, their victory bumped their record up to 19-8-1.

Truckee couldn't quite get it done against Churchill County in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 11-6. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
