Basketball Recap: Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill Comes Up Short

After flying high against Lee Christian two weeks ago, Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill came back down to earth. The Lion took a 44-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the John Paul II Catholic Saints on Monday. The matchup marked the Lion's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cannon Close went 8-for-12 to rack up 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Close has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Josh Worsham, who posted nine points.

John Paul II Catholic had a senior duo take command as Drew Lysaght earned nine points and Micah Gray-Hundell had three points and eight rebounds.

Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for John Paul II Catholic, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Looking ahead, Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill won't have much time to rest: their next game is against North Raleigh Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lion will be up against the Knights' rather soft defense (which has allowed 62.5 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for John Paul II Catholic, they will take on Pungo Christian Academy in a tournament on Thursday.
