Football Recap: Palmyra Triumphs

Palmyra took a 23-point defeat the last time they faced off against Fillmore Central, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, Palmyra made off with a 42-41 victory over Fillmore Central. This was payback for Palmyra, who suffered a 37-14 loss the last time these two teams met.

Palmyra got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Leyton Mapson out in front who picked up 198 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Mapson's longest reception was for an incredible 75 yards. Another passer making a difference was Dave Stansberrry, who threw for 313 yards and five TDs while picking up 11.2 yards per attempt.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Palmyra proved: they limited Fillmore Central to a paltry 2.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Drake Dowding for the heroic effort on defense: he. Palmyra didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged six.

Despite the loss, Fillmore Central still got an impressive performance from Preston Komenda, who threw for 381 yards and five touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. Komenda also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making eight total tackles and defending one pass.

Palmyra now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Fillmore Central, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Looking ahead, Palmyra will take on Louisville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fillmore Central, they will face off against Wilber-Clatonia on Friday.
