Basketball Recap: Tucker County Mountain Lions vs. Pendleton County Wildcat
The Tucker County Mountain Lions came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Pendleton County by a score of 72-60. Given Tucker County's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Wildcat are ranked 67th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tucker County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ashton Lycliter out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lycliter has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Knotts, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Josiah Kimble and Chase Owens certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Kimble scored 18 points along with six assists, while Owens scored 21 points. Kimble is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cashton Kisamore, who scored six points along with three blocks and two steals.
Tucker County's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points per game. As for Pendleton County, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tucker County will take on the Rams at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Southern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday. As for Pendleton County, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Paw Paw is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58 points per game this season.
