Softball Recap: Prairie Falcons vs. Union Titans

Prairie took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Union, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Prairie sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over Union on Thursday. For the Falcons, this counts as revenge for the 8-1 victory the Titans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Mackenzie Moore made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off 13 hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Ashlee Porter and Payton Blunt did most of the damage at the plate: Porter scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3, while Blunt went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Blunt has posted since back in May of 2024. Kayla Scholl was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Prairie has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Prairie wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 12-6 win against Tahoma on the 21st. As for Union, they will face off against Kelso at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
