Volleyball Recap: Shadow Ridge Falls Short Against Ranked Coronado

On Tuesday, Shadow Ridge faced Coronado in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Shadow Ridge Mustangs fell just short of the Coronado Cougars by a score of 3-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 3-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Shadow Ridge took Coronado into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking ten-point loss. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-16, 15-5.

Shadow Ridge lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Trevor Grondahl, who had 16 digs and two assists. That's the most digs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

This is the second loss in a row for Shadow Ridge and nudges their season record down to 8-3. As for Coronado, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Shadow Ridge didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Green Valley on the 13th. Coronado has also already played their next matchup (against Arbor View), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
