3A Conference 17 recap September 17, 2013
Havelock extended the longest winning streak in 3A Conference 17 this week by beating Kinston, 37-0. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Rams.
West Craven moved up to 71 from 122 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles were able to make move up by defeating Washington 14-7.
Travis Sabdo and Derrell Scott gave Havelock a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Sabdo threw for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Scott ran for 162 yards. Teammate Taron Wallace added to the ground attack by rushing for 78 yards.
Sabdo and Scott gave Jim Bryant's team a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week.
Alkeim Harley provided a threat through the air and on the ground as West Craven beat the Pam-Pack. He completed 9 passes for 173 yards and also ran for 36 yards. Harley's favorite target this week was Danny Harvey, who caught 5 passes for 105 yards.
Harvey was the best wideout in the league this week as Matthew Riggsbee's team beat Washington.
Sabdo put up the best numbers through the air as the Rams topped the Vikings. Sabdo's favorite target this week was Michael Bowman, who caught 6 passes for 80 yards.
Michael Perzyna made the biggest impact on defense this week as Swansboro fell to Southwest Onslow. The 6-foot-4 senior.
Scott was the best running back in 3A Conference 17 this week.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Havelock's Sabdo and Bowman have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Sabdo has thrown for 755 yards this season, while Bowman has 14 catches for 253 yards. White Oak's Elijah Harris leads the league in rushing yards with 699.
West Carteret lost to Conley 55-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Rodney Mitchell was a bright spot for the Patriots, as he threw for 32 yards and ran for 14 yards in the defeat.
