Baseball Recap: Norwell Drops Season-High Score on Fairfield

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Norwell). They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Fairfield Falcons on Saturday. With that victory, the Knights brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Ryne Thornton looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Drew Graft, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Jolley, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Norwell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairfield only posted an OBP of .286.

The win made it two in a row for Norwell and bumps their season record up to 15-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Fairfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-8.

Norwell and Fairfield are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Knights will square off against New Haven at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Fairfield, they will challenge Wawasee at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.73 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
