Softball Preview: Clay County Tigers vs. Belfry Pirates
The Clay County Tigers will head out to face off against the Belfry Pirates at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Belfry took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Clay County, who comes in off a win.
Clay County headed into their last contest having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Lynn Camp let them put that streak behind them. The Tigers blew past the Wildcats 14-0 on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Alivia Hoskins was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Holly Hacker was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Clay County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. The last time their batting average was this high was was before the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Belfry came up short against Letcher County Central on Thursday and fell 7-4.
Belfry has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Clay County, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 4-7.
