Basketball Recap: Tony Guerrero's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hialeah Educational Academy over Westminster Academy

Hialeah Educational Academy and Westminster Academy squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Hialeah Educational Academy had to settle for second. They lost 85-63 to the Westminster Academy Lions. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (61), the Biggie still had to take the loss.

Hialeah Educational Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tony Guerrero, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 20 points. Guerrero is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last six games he's played. Josiah Brooks was another key player, putting up 18 points.

Westminster Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alexander Lloyd, who went 9-for-11 en route to 27 points and three steals. What's more, Lloyd also posted a 82% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alex Constanza, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 15 boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Hialeah Educational Academy and nudges their season record down to 17-9. As for Westminster Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-12 record this season.

Hialeah Educational Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Westminster Academy, they will face off against Riviera Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Westminster Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 17 contests -- so hopefully Riviera Prep likes a good challenge.
