Nueces Canyon had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.6 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They walked away with a 22-14 victory over the D'Hanis Cowboys. The 22-point effort marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Nueces Canyon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Idrianna DeLeon out in front who posted six points along with 13 boards and four steals. DeLeon is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Schreiner Meredith, who had three points in addition to eight blocks and seven boards.

Nueces Canyon's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 27-5. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.8 points over those games. As for D'Hanis, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-8.

Nueces Canyon and D'Hanis are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Panthers duke it out with the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for D'Hanis, they will head out to take on McMullen County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
