Softball Recap: Yreka Miners vs. Eagle Point Eagles
Yreka had lost six straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-19 to make it seven. They came up short against the Eagle Point Eagles, falling 11-2. The Miners were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.
Emmie Freitas made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.
As for Eagle Point, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.
On Eagle Point's side, Emalee Logan made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Logan a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Madisyn Dean and Kady Ledbetter did most of the damage at the plate: Dean went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Ledbetter got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Those two doubles gave Dean a new career-high. Reese Zirkle was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Yreka will welcome Anderson at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Miners are facing the Cubs at the right time seeing as the Cubs are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Eagle Point, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Crater at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
