Softball Game Preview: Newton Eagles vs. Huntington Red Devils

Newton is 0-4 against Huntington since April of 2023 but things could change on Friday. The Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Red Devils at 6:30 p.m.

Newton is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Friday. They fell 8-5 to Pollok Central.

Meanwhile, Huntington entered their tilt with Woodville on Tuesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 4-0 shutout.

The result came thanks to Riley Whitley's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Chesney Bearden was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Huntington pushed their record up to 15-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Newton, their loss dropped their record down to 4-16.

Newton suffered a grim 27-0 defeat to Huntington in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
