Baseball Recap: Hickman County Victorious

While Hickman County's win against South Fulton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Falcons won by a run and slipped past the Red Devils 4-3. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Red Devils recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Anderson Burpo was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Hickman County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Drew Cunningham also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hickman County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.8.

Hickman County's win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for South Fulton, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hickman County will square off against Fulton County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for South Fulton, they will challenge Carlisle County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Comets have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
