Preview: Newberry Academy vs. Laurens Academy Crusaders
Newberry Academy is 0-8 against Laurens Academy since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Newberry Academy will head out on the road to face off against the Laurens Academy Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. Newberry Academy is hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Newberry Academy faced Wardlaw Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Newberry Academy had to suffer through a rough 54-14 loss at the hands of Wardlaw Academy. That's two games in a row now that Newberry Academy has lost by exactly 40 points.
Meanwhile, Laurens Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 26-22 to King Academy.
Despite the loss, Laurens Academy got a solid performance out of Garrett Murphy, who rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also picked up 35 receiving yards.
The losses dropped Newberry Academy to 2-7 and Laurens Academy to 3-6.
Newberry Academy was taken down by Laurens Academy 58-0 when the teams last played back in September. Can Newberry Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
