Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory starts season with win on the road

Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victor by a 20-1 margin over the Herron Achaeans. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2018.

Ava Esteb was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits (she also only allowed one walk). Esteb was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Georgie Kelich looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (she also didn't allow any walks).

Back at the plate, Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory let Alyssa Donaldson and Maddie Roesner loose on the outfield. Donaldson scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Roesner scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Kaylie Virkus was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

On Herron's side, Evelyn Grimes was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with a home run.

Herron's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory will take on Indianapolis Scecina Memorial at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Herron, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Christel House at 5:30 p.m. on April 3rd.
