3A/2A Conference 4 recap November 5, 2013
Crest scored a shocking upset when it eliminated Burns, 21-17. At the time, the Bulldogs were ranked 20th in the state, while the Chargers were 40th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Crest, who defeated 20th ranked Burns, 21-17. Jalin Moore ran for 64 yards and caught 2 passes for 71 yards in the win.
Chris Montgomery was a passing and rushing force as Matt Beam's team lost to Mark Barnes' team. He completed 14 passes for 191 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 122 yards. Montgomery's key target this week was Denzel Gullatte, who caught 5 passes for 99 yards.
RJ George threw for 193 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 10-21 with 0 interceptions.
Gullatte was the best receiver in 3A/2A Conference 4 this week as the Bulldogs lost to the Chargers. Gullatte tallied 5 receptions for 99 yards. Reggie Schenck helped Burns' passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 45 yards.
Shelby's George and Ralph Jolly have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback George has thrown for 2,263 yards this season, while Jolly has 33 catches for 745 yards. Tylan Ruff from Burns leads the league in rushing with 1,281 yards.
Moore of the Crest is just 64 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Moore has rushed for 936 yards on 126 carries so far this year.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Shelby and the Chargers face off next week.
A big matchup in 3A/2A Conference 4 this week will be when Lance Ware's team takes on Crest. As it stands, the Golden Lions are in third, while the Chargers are in first.
There should be lots of points scored when Shelby and Crest face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Golden Lions comes in having scored 393 this season, while the Chargers have scored 346. Shelby scored 49 points last week as it bested Draughn.
Crest was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating the Bulldogs. The Chargers came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 40 last week.
