Baseball Game Preview: Cheyenne Desert Shields vs. Valley Vikings

The Cheyenne Desert Shields are headed away from home for the first time to take on the Valley Vikings at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

Cheyenne is headed out to face Valley after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Cheyenne's pitcher stepped up to hand Valley a 12-0 shutout on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Desert Shields in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won three in a row.

Raider Campos made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Cheyenne got a big performance out of Esai Esparza, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-1. That's the most stolen bases Esparza has posted since back in March of 2024. Tapa Gamoras was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.

Everything went Cheyenne's way against Valley in their previous meeting on Thursday, as Cheyenne made off with a 12-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cheyenne since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
