Basketball Recap: Arcata Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Arcata lost to Piner back in December of 2019, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Arcata Tigers came out on top against the Piner Prospectors by a score of 59-46. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Prospectors are ranked 423rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Piner lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Brendan Walker, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Walker is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last three games he's played. Jaden Hernandez was another key player, putting up eight points along with nine rebounds and four steals.

The victory made it two in a row for Arcata and bumps their season record up to 6-1. As for Piner, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-3.

Arcata wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 52-48 defeat against Montgomery on the 14th. Piner has also already played their next contest, a 79-71 loss against Eureka on the 14th.
