Baseball Recap: Maine West Comes Up Short

Maine West dropped their record down to 7-14 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Niles North Vikings by a score of 4-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 2-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Maine West saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joey Bruno, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Bruno is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

As for Niles North, they moved to 9-15-1 with that win, which also ended their eight-game losing streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 14th.

On Niles North's side, Jacob Titsworth was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Titsworth also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Niles North is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-13-1 otherwise. Titsworth was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ari Colish was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Mason Engstrom was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

While Maine West had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
