Basketball Game Preview: St. Xavier Bombers vs. Archbishop Moeller Fighting Crusaders

St. Xavier is 1-9 against Archbishop Moeller since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The St. Xavier Bombers will venture away from home to challenge the Archbishop Moeller Fighting Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. St. Xavier will be strutting in after a victory while Archbishop Moeller will be coming in after a defeat.

St. Xavier took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 41-30 win over La Salle. Given the Bombers' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Lancers are ranked 123rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Xavier had a senior duo take command as Donovan Waleskowski posted 13 points and Brendan Deeley put up 12 points. That's the most points Deeley has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Brayden Reilly, who scored six points.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Archbishop Moeller's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 53-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Elder.

Archbishop Moeller's loss ended an 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-2. As for St. Xavier, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.

St. Xavier might still be hurting after the 54-29 defeat they got from Archbishop Moeller in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can St. Xavier avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
