Memorial hasn't had much luck against Brookfield recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Red Devils will welcome the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Memorial has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Memorial made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Mineral Ridge, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Red Devils fell just short of the Rams by a score of 11-9 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Red Devils have suffered since March 25th.
Ramani Adams was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and nine unearned) runs off nine hits. Adams was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mileesa Williams and Mileena Williams did some serious damage despite the final result: Mileesa went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI, while Mileena went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was Mileesa's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emily Cleland, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brookfield). They were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over Newton Falls on Saturday. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Like Memorial, Brookfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Madison Obermiyer. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Obermiyer has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Elaina Boyce was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Jumper, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Brookfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
This is the second loss in a row for Memorial and nudges their season record down to 10-10. As for Brookfield, their victory bumped their record up to 3-11.
Brookfield's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Memorial hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. It's a different story for Brookfield, though, as they've only averaged .240. Will they be able to contain Memorial's hitters?
Memorial took their win against Brookfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 24-9 score. Do the Red Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
