Softball Recap: Chapel Hill Sets Scoring Season-High Against Avery

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chapel Hill). Everything went their way against the Avery Bulldogs on Friday as the Chapel Hill Red Devils made off with a 23-6 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Red Devils with their most commanding win of the season.

Layla Adler made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Chapel Hill got a massive performance out of Molly Brady, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Brady continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kayda White, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Chapel Hill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Chapel Hill and bumps their season record up to 3-4. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 11.5 hits in those games compared to only 4.4 in the others. As for Avery, they dropped their record down to 2-10 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Coming up, Chapel Hill will venture away from home to take on Pleasant Grove at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Avery, they will welcome Bloomburg at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
