Basketball Recap: Roy Victorious

Roy hadn't done well against Northridge recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Roy Royals escaped with a win against the Northridge Knights by the margin of a single free throw, 41-40. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 53-42 on January 3rd.

Roy had a senior duo take command as Jerzee Hart posted eight points in addition to eight boards and four blocks and Ariana Strain earned 11 points.

Despite the loss, Northridge still got an impressive performance from Karlee Mayfield, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 37.5% of Northridge's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Sargent, who put up five points and four steals.

Roy's victory bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Northridge, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roy will venture away from home to take on Bonneville at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Roy is facing Bonneville at the right time seeing as Bonneville is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Northridge, they will head out to face off against Bountiful at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Bountiful will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Northridge surely won't give up without a fight.
