Basketball Recap: Piedra Vista Takes a Loss

Piedra Vista lost against Volcano Vista back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Piedra Vista Panthers fell 44-37 to the Volcano Vista Hawks. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Piedra Vista still got an impressive performance from Tyra Holyan, who posted 17 points and eight rebounds. Holyan's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Octaviana John, who earned three points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Mila Espinoza was her usual excellent self, putting up 21 points and four steals for Volcano Vista. Espinoza is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Haylo Whiteman, who put up six points.

Piedra Vista now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Volcano Vista, they moved to 8-7 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Piedra Vista Panthers face off against the Cibola Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Volcano Vista, they will head out to challenge Rio Rancho at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
