            Softball Recap: Varina Blue Devils vs. Highland Springs Springers        
        
		
        
        
            Varina lost against Highland Springs back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result  on Friday. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Springers by a score of  10-9. The Blue Devils just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.
 Rylee Geer put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she  didn't allow a single  earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Geer was also stellar in the batter's box,  getting on base  in three of her five plate appearances with five  stolen bases, two  runs,  and one  RBI.
 Geer wasn't  the only one making solid contact as  six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was  Julia Anderson, who  went 1-for-3 with one  run, one  double,  and one  RBI.  Taneah Hicks also deserves some recognition as  she  hit her first  double of the season.
Varina's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Highland Springs,  the  win snapped their losing streak at three games  and leaves them with a 6-4 record.
 Varina and Highland Springs could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage  in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Blue Devils (ranked 246th) will meet Patrick Henry (ranked 38th)  at 6:00  p.m.  on Monday. Meanwhile,  Highland Springs will  take on  Atlee  at 6:00  p.m.  on Monday with a big rank  disadvantage  (231 vs. 111).
