Basketball Game Preview: Bonneville Lakers vs. Box Elder Bees

The Bonneville Lakers will face off against the Box Elder Bees at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Bonneville is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Bountiful just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 69-49 to the RedHawks. While losing is never fun, the Lakers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the RedHawks are ranked 14th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Box Elder). They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Northridge 70-67. The victory was some much needed relief for the Bees as it spelled an end to their 14-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Box Elder's win came from a few key players Bonneville will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ryan Jenson, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. Those nine rebounds gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mayson Jeppsen, who posted 11 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Box Elder's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-12. As for Bonneville, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-7.

Bonneville came up short against Box Elder in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 55-50. Thankfully for Bonneville, Elijah Kersey (who went 13 of 19 on his way to 34 points and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
