Football Game Preview: Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights vs. Cimarron-Memorial Spartans

The Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights will take on the Cimarron-Memorial Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mater Academy East Las Vegas will be strutting in after a win while Cimarron-Memorial will be coming in after a loss.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Valley 53-8. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won six contests by 20 points or more so far this season.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas found their leader in sophomore Cheyanne Thornhill, who threw for 262 yards and six touchdowns. That's the most passing yards Thornhill has posted since back in February of 2024.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Mater Academy East Las Vegas' defense and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Miranda Lopez and Serina Mendez, who racked up four sacks between them. Leah Gomez-Vidal was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making seven total tackles in addition to snagging an interception.

Meanwhile, Cimarron-Memorial was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were dealt a 34-6 loss at the hands of Foothill. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by exactly 28 points.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas' victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-6. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.5 points per game. As for Cimarron-Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.
