Soccer Game Preview: Verdugo Hills vs. Chavez

Verdugo Hills is 1-9 against Chavez since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Verdugo Hills Dons will square off against the Chavez Eagles at 4:00 p.m.

Verdugo Hills is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They were a single goal away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Grant. That's two games in a row now that the Dons have lost by just one goal.

Their goal came courtesy of Diego Talavera, which was the first he's scored this season.

Meanwhile, Chavez's game on Monday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over Monroe. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 388th, while the Vikings are ranked 975th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chavez is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 19 goals over those six contests. As for Verdugo Hills, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11-2.

Verdugo Hills came up short against Chavez in their previous matchup back in January, falling 2-0. Can Verdugo Hills avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
