Basketball Recap: Makyla Jones Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Discovery

After losing to Discovery the last time they met, Auburndale decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Auburndale Bloodhounds put the hurt on the Discovery Spartans with a sharp 52-27 victory on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bloodhounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Auburndale to victory, but perhaps none more so than Makyla Jones, who went 9 for 19 on her way to 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleecia Pollard, who went 8 of 18 on her way to 16 points.

Auburndale pushed their record up to 4-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Discovery, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Auburndale didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-21 victory against Bartow on the 20th. As for Discovery, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Auburndale at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025. Auburndale has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
