Softball Recap: Elkmont's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Elkmont had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Grissom Tigers on Monday. For the Red Devils, this counts as revenge for the 11-4 win the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2021.

MJ Woodfin made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Savannah Williams was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. McKenzie Doner was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

The victory got Elkmont back to even at 11-11. As for Grissom, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-13.

Looking ahead, Elkmont will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against West Limestone at 4:30 p.m. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Grissom, they will head out to take on Sparkman at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Senators will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
