Basketball Game Preview: Crete-Monee Warriors vs. Thornton Wildcats

Crete-Monee is 0-10 against Thornton since January of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. The Crete-Monee Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Thornton Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Thornton took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Crete-Monee, who comes in off a win.

On Sunday, Crete-Monee was able to grind out a solid win over Simeon, taking the game 48-41. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Warriors' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Wolverines are ranked 29th).

Meanwhile, Thornton played a tough game on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Homewood-Flossmoor and fell 74-46. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the loss, Thornton saw an underclassman step up: freshman Deandre Higgs went 6 of 13 on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremy Blanco-Rios, who posted ten points.

Thornton's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-9. As for Crete-Monee, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
