Basketball Recap: Buena Vista Takes a Loss

Buena Vista was the 56-20 winner over Manitou Springs when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Buena Vista Demons fell 33-26 to the Manitou Springs Mustangs on Wednesday.

Despite the loss, Buena Vista still got an impressive performance from Daisy Lubbers, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 15 boards. Lubbers has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more rebounds the last three times she's played.

Manitou Springs found their leader in freshman Nolan Barrett, who posted 14 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. Barrett has become a key player for Manitou Springs: the team is undefeated when she posts at least five steals, but 6-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Aylin Gomez, who scored nine points and four steals.

Buena Vista now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Manitou Springs, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Buena Vista will host Centauri at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Centauri's defense has only allowed 29.8 points per game this season, so Buena Vista's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Manitou Springs, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ellicott at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
