Softball Recap: Erskine Academy Gets the Win

Erskine Academy came out on top against Maine Central Institute on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over the Huskies. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Kelsie Dunn made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kammie Thompson, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

The victory snapped Erskine Academy's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-7 record. As for Maine Central Institute, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Erskine Academy will welcome Medomak Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. As for Maine Central Institute, they will host Mount View at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
