Basketball Game Preview: Basic Wolves vs. Legacy Longhorns

The Basic Wolves will challenge the Legacy Longhorns at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Basic is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They managed a 50-45 win over Sierra Vista. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Mountain Lions recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

It was another big night for Mia Frias, who posted 20 points. Tatum Meatoga was another key player, putting up eight points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Legacy waltzed into their game on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They were the clear victor by a 65-40 margin over the Pioneers. The Longhorns have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 19 matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Legacy's win came from a few key players Basic will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Trista Mabry, who dropped a triple-double with ten points, 12 boards, and 13 blocks. That's the most blocks she has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alabama Nieves, who went 9 of 13 to rack up 22 points.

Legacy pushed their record up to 23-7 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.7 points over those games. As for Basic, their victory bumped their record up to 16-8.

Basic was dealt a bruising 70-41 loss at the hands of Legacy when the teams last played back in December of 2019. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Basic was down 40-17.
