Get your popcorn ready. These 10 high school football players supply the highlights.

We've selected five wide receivers and five running backs who make things happen and can change the game in an instant.

With the 2018 high school football season on the horizon, MaxPreps is starting our look at the 2018 season. For the next few months, Football Editor Zack Poff will be breaking down positions, players and teams to get you ready for the upcoming prep football season. Earlier this week, we broke down the Early Contenders: Top 10 quarterbacks.

Last year's playmakers included Amon-Ra St. Brown, Brendan Radley-Hiles, Talanoa Hufanga, James Cook and Zamir White, so this year's selection has a huge mountain to climb if they want to top 2017.

Eight of the 10 playmakers on this year's list are from the Class of 2019, while the other two are running backs from the Class of 2020.

California and Texas lead the way, each with three players on the list, while four other states are represented.

Watch the video above to see the full Top 10 as the No. 1 playmaker selected is from the Lone Star state.
