Texas high school baseball: Nehomar Ochoa tops state home run leaderboard

Galena Park slugger leads the Lone Star State with 11 home runs.

Nehomar Ochoa of Galena Park leads Texas high school baseball with 11 home runs this season according to statistics submitted to MaxPreps.

Committed to Houston, Ochoa is hitting .602 this season for the Yellowjackets. More than half of Ochoa’s hits were for extra bases as he added 11 doubles and six triples.

Nathan Rivas of Weslaco East (Weslaco) is second in the state with 10 home runs. Rivas played both corners of the infield and pitched for the Wildcats. Rivas had a career day on April 6 going 3-5 with 4 RBI, two home runs and a double.

Jorvorskie Lane Jr. of Wyatt (Fort Worth) finished in a tie for seventh with six home runs. The freshman hit .493 for the Chaparrals. In a 3-1 win on March 28, Lane Jr. hit two home runs, accounting for all 3 RBI in the conference game.
