Softball Recap: Berwick Comes Up Short

If Berwick was riding high fresh off their 10-2 takedown of St. James last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Berwick Panthers fell just short of the Central Catholic Eagles by a score of 14-12 on Monday. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost eight in a row.

Azyria Garrison stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Makinzie Macaluso, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Even though they lost, Berwick always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .513 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Berwick's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Central Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Berwick will challenge Patterson at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Central Catholic, they will head out on the road to square off against Kaplan at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
