Basketball Recap: Juelz Watson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gautier over St. Martin

Gautier extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-4. They took a 58-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Martin Yellow Jackets. The Gators were not able to make up for their defeat to the Yellow Jackets from their previous meeting back in November of 2024.

Gautier's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Juelz Watson, who shot 60% from the field to rack up 15 points in addition to five assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Fredrick Davis, who posted nine points.

As for St. Martin, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 64.0 points this season.

Markel Simmons was nothing short of spectacular: he dropped a double-double with 32 points and ten boards. George Norman was another key player, putting up five points along with 14 rebounds and five steals.

Gautier has already played their next matchup, a 52-50 win against Stone on the 10th. As for St. Martin, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-50 defeat against St. Stanislaus on the 11th.
