Baseball Recap: Cocoa Beach Wins Going Away Against Palm Bay

Cocoa Beach was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. They blew past the Palm Bay Pirates 16-7. The victory continues a trend for the Minutemen in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won four in a row.

Jack Meckel made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kristian Wolfe, who went 2-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Anthony Ceruti was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

Cocoa Beach's win bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Palm Bay, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-10.

Coming up, Cocoa Beach will take on Viera in a tournament on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Minutemen 4, the Hawks 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Palm Bay, they will be taking part in a tournament against Cocoa at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a 17-game losing streak.
