Basketball Recap: Cherokee Trail Cougars vs. Mullen Mustangs        
        
		
            
 The Cherokee Trail Cougars came tearing into  Wednesday's  contest with seven straight wins  (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Mullen by a score of  49-38. That's another feather in the cap for Cherokee Trail, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
  Damara Allen continued  her habit of posting crazy stat lines,  scoring 15 points along with six  rebounds and two  steals. She is on a roll when it comes to  steals, as she's  now  grabbed two or more in the last six games she's  played. Another player making a difference was  Madeline Gibbs, who  scored 11 points along with eight  rebounds.
 When it comes to explaining why Mullen lost, one person who can't be blamed is  Allison Schwertner. Despite the final result, she  scored 12 points along with six  rebounds and three  blocks.  Makenzie Jones was another key contributor,  scoring ten points along with eight  rebounds.
 Cherokee Trail's victory was  their ninth straight on the road, which  pushed their record up to 16-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.1 points per game. As for Mullen, their loss  ended  a  five-game streak of wins at home  dating back to last season and  dropped them to 12-6.
 Both  teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cherokee Trail will take on the Trailblazers at 5:30  p.m.  on Friday. Overland will have to bring their A-game into this one,  as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Cougars are ranked second). As for Mullen, they have the luxury  of staying home another  game and will welcome the Warriors at 7:00  p.m.  on February 2nd. Arapahoe is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.7  points per game this season.
