Softball Recap: Saint Gertrude Takes a Loss

Saint Gertrude was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fredericksburg Christian Eagles. The Gators were not able to make up for their defeat to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Sophie Sims spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Anna Okay was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

Saint Gertrude's record is now 1-6. As for Fredericksburg Christian, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Saint Gertrude will host Saint John Paul the Great Catholic at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Fredericksburg Christian, they will be playing at home against Christchurch School at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
