Baseball Game Preview: Concordia Fighting Orioles vs. St. Paul Lutheran Saints

For the first time this season, Concordia will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the St. Paul Lutheran Saints at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Concordia's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so St. Paul Lutheran's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Concordia barely beat Sweet Springs the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Fighting Orioles never let the Greyhounds get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Fighting Orioles in their matchups with the Greyhounds: they've now won four in a row.

Meanwhile, St. Paul Lutheran posted their closest win since March 25th on Monday. They skirted past Kingsville 4-3.

Gus Sayre made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Sayre was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ty McGinnis, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. Ryan Kunkel was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

St. Paul Lutheran's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Concordia, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Concordia couldn't quite finish off St. Paul Lutheran in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Fighting Orioles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
