Softball Recap: Chelsea Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Auburn

Chelsea faced Auburn in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Hornets came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tigers, sneaking past 6-4. This was payback for the Hornets, who suffered a 6-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Sydney Carroll made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Carroll was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Hopson, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Lauren Hilyer was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

The win made it two in a row for Chelsea and bumps their season record up to 23-10-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for Auburn, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 18-11.

Coincidentally, Chelsea and Auburn will both be playing Orange Beach the next time they take the field. The Tigers will head out to face the Makos at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Hornets will play them later in the day, at 11:10 a.m.
