The Harper Creek Beavers will head out to challenge the Marshall Redhawks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Harper Creek 3.3, Marshall 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Harper Creek is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Hastings with a sharp 15-0 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Beavers in their matchups with the Saxons: they've now won nine in a row.
Braxton Liss and Teegan Turnbull did most of the damage at the plate: Liss went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Turnbull went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Turnbull a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jimmy Leamy, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Harper Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Marshall waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 6-2.
Jaden Spence was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Brandon Baker was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Harper Creek pushed their record up to 10-3-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Marshall, their record now sits at 10-3.
Everything went Harper Creek's way against Marshall in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Harper Creek made off with an 8-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Beavers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
