Softball Recap: Mater Dei Catholic Now 15-2 over Last 17 Games

With a playoff win on the line, Mater Dei Catholic rose to the challenge on Saturday. They blew past the El Modena Vanguards 12-3. Considering the Crusaders have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Arri Romero spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bella Harris, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Maya Matthies, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Mater Dei Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April.

Mater Dei Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for El Modena, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 23-10.

As of now, neither Mater Dei Catholic nor the Vanguards have any future games scheduled.
