Softball Recap: Cornwall Central Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Cornwall Central brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Monticello Panthers a 12-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Dragons as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Taylor Horaz made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddie Ferraro, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Alana Hayes was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.

Cornwall Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Cornwall Central's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Monticello, their loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-12.

Coming up, Cornwall Central will square off against Washingtonville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Monticello, they will take on Sullivan West at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
