Basketball Recap: North Park Falls Despite Big Games from Graham Cornelison and Gavin Pittington

North Park's game on Saturday was all tied up 23-23 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of the Caprock Academy Eagles by a score of 43-40. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

North Park's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Gavin Pittington, who posted 15 points and three steals, and Graham Cornelison, who scored 13 points and five boards. The dominant performance also gave Cornelison a new career-high in assists (two).

Caprock Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Justin Swank, who had nine points and five rebounds. Ethan Holt was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

North Park's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Caprock Academy, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Park will host Little Snake River at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Little Snake River will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something North Park surely won't give up without a fight. As for Caprock Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against De Beque at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. De Beque knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Caprock Academy likes a good challenge.
