Recap: Upland Highlanders/Scots vs. Norco Cougars
The Upland Highlanders/Scots entered their tilt with the Norco Cougars with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Upland snuck past Norco with a 72-66 win on Friday. Given Upland's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Norco is ranked 363rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Matthew Mendias, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five steals. The contest was Mendias' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Jose Acosta was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Upland is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Norco, they bumped their record down to 7-6 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Upland will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Don Lugo at 6:00 p.m. on December 26th. Don Lugo has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 255 points over their last four matches. Norco won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Citrus Valley at 5:00 p.m. on December 16th. Citrus Valley will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
