Recap: Stephenson Jaguars vs. Stone Mountain Pirates
In what's become a running theme this season, the Stephenson Jaguars gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They blew past Stone Mountain 67-43. Given Stephenson's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 185th, while Stone Mountain is ranked 435th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Stone Mountain's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makayla Wilson, who scored 19 points. That was a full 44.2% of Stone Mountain's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Laila Coleman, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
The victory (which was Stephenson's fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-9. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for Stone Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-15.
Stephenson will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Clarkston at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Stephenson is facing Clarkston at the right time seeing as Clarkston is stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Stone Mountain, they will be playing at home against Westminster at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
